Good day my blog lovers. How is 2014 going for you? Pretty good I hope. For most a little bit of the foolishness of 2013 is still trying drag some down. Any hoot.
I don't know if you follow the phenomenal that swept MTV a couple years ago. First there was the movie
Catfish is a 2010 American documentary about a young man name Nev who was building a relationship with a young woman on the social network website Facebook. Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman was a critical and commercial success, that inspired the MTV series Catfish: The TV Show
Just in case you are not familiar with the term catfish here is the definition
I didn't become aware of the show until the second season. Boy is good though. Now while watching the show if you anything like me, you definitely start reflecting on all the time you have been Catfished. I am a product of a digital world and have been online dating since I was 17 years old. It started with Collegeclub then on to Blackplanet, which went on to Myspace. Then on to Downelink, Facebook, and as of late POF. Don't judge me. The horror stories I have and I'm pretty sure you have some of your own. For example one of the major tricks older Catfishes do, is using old pictures of when they were much younger and usual smaller. But I digress.
Catfish the TV show is very extreme. It usually showcases people who are in a stable long-term, I'm talking years, relationship and have never actually met. Usually there isn't any real physical interaction, nor do they video chat. The way they communicate is through telephone calls, and social media such as Facebook. The show is entertaining, but it is slightly unbelievable.
Who in their right minds would be in a relationship with another person that they haven't actually met. For years! In the end usually someone in the relationship is lying about who they are. Often there is fake online persona created by one of the individuals involved in the relationship using someone else's pictures to portray themselves.
This is where a I have the hardest time believing the show is real! I mean come on, who has time to put that much effort into faking it? It hard to believe that people are that grimy to lie about who they are.
Side note:
There must be quite a few because there is a season three coming this fall.
I told you a little bit about my Catfish experience. I have never experienced out and out lying on the internet. That was before last week.
A good friend of mine got Catfished!!! YES. Well in his case the person who is Catfishing is using his photo's from his Facebook page on a Tagged profile to hook ladies. Check this wild mess out!
This is A CATFISH. If you look closely you can tell the face has been Cropped on!

This is my first true Catfish experience. My friend Buddha just laughed. He's kind of in disbelief about it. I haven't reached out to Tony M. on tagged. Do you think I should? I might just to see what drove him to doing this. This is crazy right.
So what is the point of watching Catfish? (and the point of this blog)
Now from watching to the show you discover different tactics to find out if a person is a Catfish. You have to protect yourself. Here are a fews steps you can do.
1. you can search the person's name or/and user name in a search engine such as Bing, Google or Yahoo
2. Perform a reverse search the a telephone number.
Now the type of Catfishing Tony M. is doing is harder to trace because he stole body pictures.
I hope Nev and Max can give us more tips on protecting your identity on these social media site. Plus this should raise some alarms for you about how easily some can steal your photos. All it takes is a simple, right clicking and saving. HHHmm.O_o go ahead and try it
In this instance Tony M. is just standing out. Until next time.
Live an Outstanding life. Peace
